This listing is for the exact Sword in the photos. From a local Tupelo area collection comes this striking court or presentation sword. We do not know the manufacturer, possibly French or even German. Tang marking is dim, a weak strike to begin with, letters appear to us to be F LLi. S. The word Depose is stamped inside the guard plate, with an illegible to us two character stamping opposite that, perhaps OB or OH or even BB, we can’t tell. Numerals 240821 / 0876 are hand scribed near the Depose word. We estimate this sword was manufactured and issued or presented in the 19th Century, perhaps early on. Construction is chrome steel, with ornage gold plated brass handle and guard material, with blued steel inlays, very attractively assembled. Guard is faceted blued steel, copper wire, and gold plated brass chain type. Note the cast eagle in the guard, that perhaps will determine the country of issue. Scabbard is leather body with brass upper and point piece. Finish is polished surface blued steel, with engraved gold inlay on the sword body, and with gold plating on the brass portions of the handle. Scabbard hardware appears brass only. Blade length is 30 inches; overall length is 35 1/2 inches. Surface detractions are minimal, principally the weak and partially tornw are in the scabbard 2 inches from the point brass. We rate this sword as Excellent Condition, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
